Former Deputy Supervisor Jim Sharpe said that people fear for their lives when riding along E. River AND former Supervisor John Whitney has said that E. River poses some real challenges because of its terrain and topography. Current Supervisor Pete Marston has said that all stakeholders need to be involved in a plan to improve E. River.

The Greenway Trail commission has already warned that E. River poses serious risk, citing past incidents where cyclists and walkers have been injured or harmed. “We have two gaping holes in our plan,” Stevens said. “We are going to kill people if we send them down Grand Island Boulevard and we have already seen cyclists and walkers get mangled on East River Road.”
